will come shortly. this includes julia gillard and the leader of the opposition, who has been trying to win the support of three members of parliament who will the balance of power. live in sydney is our correspondent. is the announcement imminent? >> we have had a five-week election campaign. within the next hour or so, we expect this to be resolved when the three kingmaker's are going to sit before the australian capital and announce who is prime minister. that is the plan. there is even a possibility they might not act in tandem. we end up with 75 against 75, which would mean a quick return, so they have said all along they want to create a stable government, but the assumption is they will go one way or the other as a blocker. we will find out whether julia gillard remains prime minister or whether she will be replaced by the leader of the liberal party. >> what is the speculation of the way these may go? >> i think it is safe to say julia gillard probably woke up more confidence than sony fabric. -- tony abbott. i think members on the conservative side have said, we could still

form today. that is karl. igor is huge, a very strong category 4, and we have hurricane julia just a little bit beyond that. hurricane julia has also strengthened tonight into a category 2. we'll start with the track of tropical storm karl because it will make land fall on the yucatan peninsula. we believe it will strengthen to a category 1 hurricane before going to central america this weekend . that's one storm that has to be watched. bermuda will have to watch hurricane igor. it's also strengthened, winds of 155 miles an hour, 1 more mile and it would be category 5 and julia has high winds. check out the paths of both of these. julia has changed just a little bit but they'll both be kuvshg and i'm afraid bermuda will take a big hit with that. here's the 5-day forecast, nice for wednesday, maybe showers late thursday and friday. the weekend clears out again, brian and shawn. >> sue palka, thank you very much . >>> going to prince georges county right now, where county executive nominee ra shirm baker is now speaking. let's listen in. >> it's a resounding course of renewal and refor

keep you up to date on that and julia is a hurricane. julia's way out there! here's igor. it's moving at about 10 miles per hour and winds up to 86 miles per hour. a strong category one storm. there's one more we want to watch. this is not organized to a tropical depression or storm yet. it would be karl. there's not a lot to it. but it will drift -- drift to the northwest. forecast today is nice. 83 degrees and a breeze. then, tonight, we'll cool down, 52 for the low and tomorrow, up to 80 degrees once again and sunshine, passing clouds and then, the storm comes our way thursday and friday. we'll have the five-day forecast coming up. >>> and still to come at noon, a sanitary survey. a survey shows how many americans really wash their hands. >> here are the top stories on wjz.com at this hour. for more information, go to wjz.com. everyone knows a fee is a tax. you raised some taxes during that period, particularly the property tax as well as a lot of fee increases. as you know, there's a big difference between fees and taxes. but...they're the same. it's a tax. it's a tax. it's a tax.

igor. guay off indialantic is a tropical storm julia pureed -- way off in the atlantic is a tropical storm julia. it looks like igor will be very close to bermuda by saturday as a category 3 storm. it is a big storm, but for now at least out in the middle of nowhere in the atlantic. the heights tomorrow will be in the mid 80's and below will be 63. 86 in fredericksburg and 86 in frederick. if you take the next six or seven days an average it out, we're pretty much where we should be. a couple of days above average and a couple of days below. no major storms to talk about across the continental u.s. the little bit of rain that we had yesterday was to wash the pollen count out of the air. we may see a scattered showers on friday. tamara, breezy and in the-degree range. -- tomorrow, breezy and in the 80-degree range. by friday, a chance of a few showers and it will cool off again just in time for the weekend. 62 degrees in the mid cities and in the 50 cozied in the suburbs by morning. -- in the 50's in the suburbs by morning. by thursday, a for 70's. saturday and sunday and mon

space, first hurricane igor now a category four. julia is on its way to become the fifth of the season. and then there is tropical storm karl. >> let's get right to it. first, on the right-hand side of the screen, that is hurricane julia with top winds of 80 miles per hour. it poses no threat. the second, right in the middle of the screen, hurricane igor. this is going to be a problem and then will diminish to category 3 status. right now, it might over -- might pass over the run on sunday. -- pass over lira on sunday. it could hit the yucatan peninsula some time on thursday. meanwhile, let's talk about what is happening around here. 84 and 65 for the high and low today. over the next six to 10 days will have above average days. the pollen count is really high and the weed category as well. and once again, ragweed. the wood is interesting about ragweed -- what is interesting about ragweed, the red line indicates what the actual peak is. it is still climbing. it is much higher than what we have normally have had. the good news is, over the next week to 10 days id should rapidly diminish

lot. we are talking about hurricane igor and tropical storm julia both expected to head well off to the atlantic. but igor will move over bermuda over the next 36 hours or so. already they are seeing some of the effects of that storm system from storm force winds as well as rainfall. could get 6-9 inches of rainfall. no warnings or watches at all as far as julia is concerned. hurricane warnings however for bermuda as far as igor goes. cold front for us will push through on sunday. all it will do is leave us some clouds. a shower near the mason dixon line. very well. a very dry air mass in place. but we will see our temperatures rise as we head into the course of the week. that red skins game tomorrow. boy, do we have great weather for it. we are talking the skins and the texans. 82 to 83 by the time kickoff is around at 4:15 p.m. some clouds but a warm evening to enjoy. here is a look at the five day forecast for you. talk about a spike in temperatures. getting ready for the first day in fall. but look at this, 90 degrees on wednesday. unbelievable, well above seasonal. temperatures

into the picture, perhaps you can see outer bands here of the second tropical storm julia and there could even be something trying to develop in the caribbean, too. it doesn't have a name. it's not a tropical depression yet, but that will also have to be watched. let's get the latest update, though, on these two systems. first igor with winds of 140 miles an hour is a category 4 storm and jewel, why much weaker has winds of 50 -- yule ya, much weaker has winds of 50 -- julia, much weaker has winds of 50 miles per hour and everything with igor continues to take it away from the east coast, but unfortunately it's going to be very close to bermuda and very powerful when it does pass them probably as a category 3 or category 2. julia will take much more of an eastern path. so that's good news, too but the combination of the two of these over the weekend really should have the atlantic quite churned up. be aware half if you're heading down to the beaches. that would be dangerous because of the rip currents again. 82 degrees for us tomorrow, wednesday about 80. we've got another nice day

sister julia, hurricane julia, renamed and upgraded earlier this morning. yesterday, we've got our time lapse imagery across baltimore. you can see we had a mix of clouds thrown into the sky but this morning 67 at oriole park camden yards. that is one of the warmest spots we can find. most of you start in the 50s. ellicott city 54. 58 degrees in perry hall and 57 bel air and northeast. follow the our wake-up window at the bottom of the screen. you'll see a nice weather pattern the next couple of days. hopefully we have nice traffic to talk about. let's toss to it kim brown. >>> we have good traffic to piggyback on the good weather. no accidents or incidents right now. everything that we had early on has been cleared. so traffic is off to a good start. on the beltway, so far so good, pretty quiet, 695 at harford road, both loops moving without problems. west side looking good between 795 and 70 on the outer loop. 95 corridor will be clear the entire stretch especially between the beltways, 695 and 495, no issues. bw parkway, no problems and harrisburg expressway looking good as well. bac

weaker than yesterday. now joining the party is hurricane julia, it had been upgraded to hurricane status earlier. we'll show you the images in a few minutes. right now maryland's most powerful doppler radar and five complete sweeps across the chesapeake, sounding the all-clear. currently temperatures range from a chilly 56 in bel air with light winds, to 61 at the gwynn oak elementary school. so basically we're looking at temperatures this morning, 57 degrees officially in baltimore. and our 2-degree guaranteed high brings us up with sunny skies to 80 degrees this afternoon. by 4:00 p.m. lets check the roads with kim. >>> good morning. traffic is moving very well around the beltway so far. no problems up and down 95. as we peek here in anne arundel county, this is going to be 97 at benfield boulevard. traffic is pretty good northbound towards 695. no problems southbound as you approach route 50 making your way in towards the capitol beltway. traffic looks good towards dc so far. as we look at drive times, very few delays especially northbound 95. nine minutes between route 100 to

headline here, hurricane igor, still a category 4, a little weaker. now joined by hurricane julia, that we're watching out there in the open waters of the atlantic. now igor down to 135 mile-per-hour winds. that is below the 150 mark that we had measured yesterday. at least the national hurricane center had measured. we don't personally go out there for you. but we're watching hurricane julia off the coast of africa, now winds of 75 miles per hour. and just upgraded to hurricane status this morning. locally, maryland's most powerful doppler radar, we are dry. we've got ourselves five sweeps across the chesapeake and showing up basically no moisture falling from a few clouds out there. down to 54 in ellicott city. 57 in perry hall. the warm spot, the eastern shore in centreville at 61 degrees. 2-degree guaranteed high with a mix of sun and clouds, up to 80 this afternoon. >>> right now here's kim brown with a check of traffic. >> traffic is off to a very good start. we're very light on incidents, hardly anything out there that is going to hold you up at this time. drive times just show e

is igor and right behind him is julia. sue palka is tracking both these storms for us tonight. >> we've got a third one out there, not a hurricane, but karl is up there on the big monitor for you and we also have the spaghetti models up, but clearly what we need to be focusing on is the one in the middle. igor is not going to hit the east coast, but bermuda will get pounded we think with category 1 or 2 hurricane conditions on sunday and perhaps 10 to 20-foot waves just off the coast. julia we believe will stay out to sea. it is a category 3 now. igor is still a category 4 and karl is on land on the yucatan peninsula but may, in fact, become a hurricane again as we go down it the road. a couple important things to talk about with hurricane season. it got a slow start but is quite active now. we want you to know it is very rare that earlier today julia was a category 4 and only recently weakened to a 3 and it's very rare to have two category 4 storms in the atlantic basin. it has only happened one other time. this is also the fourth category 4 storm we've had in just 20 days th

hurricane igor. the others are dissipating. julia is a tropical storm, so julia is a player. it is a category 2 hurricane. it is expected to cross right over bermuda late tomorrow and into tomorrow night. now, if the i of the storm passes to the west of bermuda, they are going to get the brunt of it, and there is going to be serious damage on the island. as a matter of fact, they will probably get rain and tropical storm conditions tonight and tomorrow morning. obviously if you have travel plans to bermuda, will you want to watch what happens with igor. we will get dangerous rip currents. the high temperature between 75 and 80. sunrise coming up at 6:50. mostly clear tonight and cool again. about the same as last night. temperatures between 51 and 61. sunset at 10 -- the front comes through monday night and back to 82 on tuesday. mid 80's at the end of the week. summer will try to make a comeback, wednesday, thursday, and friday. we'll see scattered thunderstorms over that time as well. back to the news desk. >> the american heart association wants you to take a walk with them and do

tropical storm julia. a lot -- has a sidekick, a tropical storm julia. 156 miles per hour would make it category five. that is big, though. it is okay where aid is. the concern is it -- where it is. the concern is going forward, where it's going to be. it is seney and 86 degrees in fairfax. 82 in gaithersburg. 84 degrees in the week. the -- in the week. -- in buie. kansas city, up to 87. a lot of warmth. that trend is going to be the hallmark of our weather ihere over the next couple of weeks. storm-wise, there is not much to watch. a little bit of a cold front coming through and maybe a few showers tomorrow, but all we will see from this is a continuation of breezy weather. temperatures will be cool, but that is it. most of the action will be up north. lots of sunshine, and 80 degrees. on friday, another system could come through. it could probably follow the same path and give us some rain by friday. temperatures averaging 80 degrees in the afternoon. sunshine tomorrow, sunshine through the day on wednesday. back near 80 degrees on thursday, and then on friday, a few showers possible.

. two hurricanes coming across the atlantic. julia has strengthened to a category one storm. expected to continue to grow in the next couple of days. before julia is igor and it is a dangerous category four. janice dean the weather machine in the extreme weather center now. igor, in any change in path? >> still the same as it was yesterday. still a strong category four storm. well, defined eye. all four quadrants filling out. the higher cloud tops you can see with the deeper oranges but there is the path almost identical to this time yesterday. still remains a category 4. a strong storm up until friday and then making a beeline right for bermuda. the only thing changed is the strength of the storm as it gets closer to bermuda but they could receive a direct hit from a hurricane. >> what about julia? >> julia not a big concern. it is a hurricane, of course. we will monitor it but the track will tell you it will stay far away from land and even far away from bermuda. still remaining a hurricane over the next several days but it will mainly be a fish storm as we like to call it

storm julia, the remnants of hurricane karl as well. our reynolds wolf is waiting for igor's arrival. he is live for us in bermuda. how much time do they have? how much time do you have before it gets to you there? >> reporter: parts of the storm here. despite the sunshine and the light breeze we have now, the waves are getting very, very big. some people are taking advantage of it. i am going to pan over here. if you happen to see, we have cnn photojournalist get behind the camera. i don't know if you folks can see it. it might be choppy with the satellite. there is a red wind board back there. there is a guy with the swimming trunks. that guy is about to go out there and brave the surf. i hope it is not a suicide mission. those waves out there are getting very, very big. some of them right beyond the coral reef are about 19 feet. with the wipd really picking them up. some of them getting up to 20, 25. if you are expecting the waves to get bigger. we are down by the beach itself a short while ago to see some of the water firsthand. pretty interesting to say the least. here is anothe

preparation -- preparation for it. we have got julia actually a tropical storm moving west, northwest at 14 miles per hour. and julia is actually weakening out a little bit. but we do anticipate that the remnants of julia will be absorbed by igor in the long run and it doesn't pose any threat to land right now. we will look at the weather track and show you exactly where they are headed. the good news is igor will head away from the coastal ear area and head out to the atlantic as is julia. we will not have to deal with this so far so really great news for us. but really keep our fingers crossed for bermuda. not much happening for us at all. this frontal system will move through. pretty dry and will bring us clouds as remove through into sunday. mason dixon could see an isolated shower there. but really not a whole lot happening for us. temperature-wise as we move through mid-day 79 degrees. just an odd cloud or two. not much to worry about across the area. a pretty nice day on tap for tomorrow. mostly clear skies and mid-50s in the bushes. here is a look at the five day forecast for you
